Mission 2019 in Durgapur

Prof. Mariana Curado Malta was again welcomed by Prof. Animesh Dutta in the National Institute of Technology (NIT) of Durgapur between the 4th and 15th of November 2019. During her visit, she had a number of joint meetings with Master in Technology (M.Tech) in Computer Science and Engineering students regarding further works in the context of the project. She also met with PhD scholars of the Multi-Agent and Distributed Computing Lab, where she gave inputs on the work these scholars are doing.

Apart from these meetings, she gave classes to M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering in the course of “Semantic Web and Linked Data Engineering” (6 hrs in total). She also gave a seminar/talk on “The Semantic Web: a hymn to interoperability constructs and techniques” for the whole Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

Prof. Mariana Curado Malta had the opportunity to engage in many social events during those 2 weeks of stay: She was invited at NIT Durgapur to the inauguration of the programme of the pre-selection camp of Eastern India of NSS (National Service Scheme) volunteers for the Republic Day parade (held on 26th January 2020 in Rajpath Delhi). She also visited two holy places in Kolkata i) the Dakhineswar Kali Temple, and ii) the Belur Ramkrishna Math (travelling from Dakhineswar to Belur Math by a Boat on the holy river Ganges of India). Finally, she participated in a programme at Bharat Sevashram Sangha.

Isabel Ferreira (UMinho Master in Information Systems student) was welcomed by Prof. Animesh Dutta  in the National Institute of Technology (NIT) of Durgapur between the 11th and 15th of November 2019. During her visit, she participated in the development of the DH-MAP (Daily Hire Metadata Application Profile) and the web platform responsible for producing and using the data according to the developed MAP. This work was done together with a Master in Technology (M.Tech) in Computer Science and Engineering student and the supervision of Prof. Animesh Dutta and Prof. Mariana Curado Malta.

Mission 2018 in Guimarães & Matosinhos

Samriddhi Sarkar (a research scholar in NIT Durgapur, jointly supervised by Prof Animesh Dutta and Prof. Mariana Curado Malta) was welcomed by Prof. Ana Alice Baptista in the Algoritmi Center (University of Minho) in Guimarães between the 14th October to the 8th November 2018.  She had the opportunity to discuss her research work with the students of UMinho that helped her to get better insights into her research work. On 31st October 2018, she delivered a presentation at University of Minho, Azurém Campus on “Coalition formation in the multi-agent system”.

She was welcomed by Prof. Mariana Curado Malta in CEOS.PP (ISCAP-IPP) in Matosinhos between the 9th November to 11th December 2018. During her stay, she met Prof. Deolinda Meira at ISCAP to discuss the players of unorganised sectors. She also met Miguel Malta, who is currently working with The Government of Angola, in Angola to discuss the conditions of smallholder farmers in the developing countries. On the 5th December, she delivered a presentation on “Coalition formation of the smallholder farmers.” in CEOS.PP.

She had the opportunity to visit a few megaliths in Oliveria de Frades, with Prof. Mariana Curado Malta and her student of the Master in Information Sciences of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. She also did the “Passadiços do Paiva” with some friends of Prof Mariana Curado Malta. Finally, she engaged in other social gatherings during her stay in Matosinhos, which gave her a perspective of the Portuguese culture and tradition.

Prof. Mariana Curado Malta was welcomed by Prof. Animesh Dutta in the National Institute of Technology (NIT) of Durgapur between 16th and 21st of June 2018. She met several scholars of the NIT and interacted with many students of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, either undergraduate, master and PhD students. She had the opportunity to discuss their research designs, see demonstrations of student’s work and discuss more closely with the students involved in the work of EMPOWER SSE project.
Mariana Curado Malta also gave a workshop about scientific writing were students brought papers written by them or under development to discuss better approaches to the scientific writing.

Mariana Curado Malta had the opportunity to visit the Rabindranath Tagore Home and Museum and Visva Bharati University Campus, in Shantiniketan . She also visited the “Amar kuthi” cooperative, a project inspired by Tagore’s philosophy of freedom and people’s empowerment. All she saw was an inspiration for her future as an educator and researcher.
